Year-Round Beauty with No Mowers or Fertilizers Say Hello to Synthetic Turf

They’re the envy of every lawn-lover in the neighborhood. Always meticulously mowed, wonderfully watered, and fastidiously fertilized, it’s safe to assume that countless hours went into perfecting this patch. But this high-maintenance appearance couldn’t be further from the truth. Thanks to today’s synthetic turf options, having the yard of your dreams requires no mowers or fertilizers and is just an install away.

Lower maintenance and consistently colorful, residential synthetic turf ranges from pet-focused to playgrounds and gives homeowners long-lasting, year-round coverage. Synthetic turf can also be used with grass as a great solution for high traffic or hard to grow areas. Thanks to good drainage through a properly built base system, it also dries much faster than grass.

“Modern synthetic turf is worlds away from what you might expect,” says Melanie Taylor, President and CEO of the Synthetic Turf Council, a trade association dedicated to educating and advocating for the industry. “People are often shocked by how natural looking today’s options are. When you couple how nice it looks with the fact that there are lower maintenance requirements, you can see why hundreds of thousands of homeowners around the world choose synthetic turf.”

But synthetic turf isn’t just easy on the eyes. There are environmental advantages, as well. The use of synthetic turf can save billions of gallons of water each year. This is especially important in areas of the country struggling with serious drought and where restrictions prohibit or restrict watering. And not having real grass means no need to use harmful pesticides or fertilizers that could potentially contaminate groundwater.

“Sustainability is a priority in the synthetic turf industry and is driving innovation at warp speed,” Taylor says. “From providing erosion control to developing large-scale recycling programs, we are committed to building a better future by responsibly evolving our industry.”
