Silvers are hot! Entire plant books are devoted to this unique leaf and flower color. This arrangement, from a private garden in Philadelphia, combines different silvers perfectly. It doesn’t rate a ribbon because not all of the plants last for at least six months. But what a beauty!
Notice how well the large leaves of the succulent and the two different rex begonias contrast with the tiny leaves of the dichondra ‘Silver Falls.’
The Plants
Echeveria spp: Two plants from a 6” pot.
Dichondra ‘Silver Falls’: Six plants from 4” pots.
Rex begonia: Two plants from 6” pots.
Euphorbia ‘Diamond Frost’: Two plants from 4” pots.
Light: Light shade.
Season: Plant when temperatures range from 50 to 85 degrees F.
Lifespan: This arrangement is happy in this size pot for about three to four months.
Care: Fertilize on planting day with a slow-release mix. Trim the dichondra when it reaches the ground.
Water: Water thoroughly when the plants show signs of wilt, or the soil feels dry when you push your fingertip into the potting mix.
Troubleshooting: No problems.
Planting Plan: Plant the begonias, echeveria, and ‘Diamond Frost’ in the center. Tuck the dichondra in along the edge.
Container: Concrete trough (about 28”L x 10”W x 10”T).
