Hiya campers. Where’s that dang groundhog! It’s tough for nearly everybody out there. Can’t dig, can’t plant. But wait! The Oscars are on TV with all that glitz and glamor. Well, they’re not the only show in town and with these hotties from Terra Nova, you can have some pizzazz at home! Variegated plants indoors have been extremely hot. Philodendron ‘Pink Princess’ and Monstera ‘Thai Constellation’ truly set the indoor plant world on fire, driving demand and increasing sales for ALL variegated indoor plants. As I predicted, indoor growers are looking outdoors and what do you know; variegated hardy plants have captured the love of Gen whatever and sales are going nuts! While we have had Heuchera ‘Midnight Rose’ for years, we have a bigger brighter variegated child named Heuchera ‘Galaxy’ to satisfy their whims. Heuchera ‘Glitter’ is prancing down the red carpet, combining way-cool metallic silver foliage with scads of flowers. Not far behind is a real gem; Heuchera ‘Ruby Tuesday’ with Carmine, ultra-ruffled leaves in spring which mature to a royal ruby in summer fall and winter. A red-carpet sight to be seen! Read on and see what we’re not hiding!
Come to www.terranovanurseries.com and download our latest catalog (You’ve got to see it!) So many cool plants! Let’s have a look!
’Heuchera ‘Ruby Tuesday’
So many ruffles! Each ruby colored leaf is ruffled and fluted to an extreme degree. Moderately large and very full, 'Ruby Tuesday' tops itself with hundreds of small, creamy-white, star-like flowers and performs in both sun and partial shade, though it is more compact in full sun. The multitudinous flowers rise to sixteen inches high on an upright, but compact habit, nine inches high by fourteen inches wide. Spring growth is a shocking carmine-red. Late summer color matures to a rich Merlot color and covers the foliage with a silvery veil. Bloomtime is from May to June. Hardy in USDA Zones four to nine and is showy in outdoor containers or en masse in a bright garden location.
To infinity and beyond! A brand-new variegated creation from TERRA NOVA® with large leathery leaves heavily variegated with spots of hot pink on a very dark background. Leaves emerge a startling bright red and turn darker as they age. The variegation on the other hand gets lighter colored and more noticeable as the season progresses. White flowers rise to fourteen inches high on an upright but strong habit, twelve inches wide by nine inches high. Leaves are much larger than ‘Heuchera ‘Midnight Rose,’ still a hot seller! 'Galaxy' will love heat and humidity but performs very well in cool climates as well. Bloomtime is from May through July. Hardy in USDA zones four to nine and is showy in large outdoor containers or in a bright garden location. It will take partial shade, but morning sun is the best.
One can spot H. 'Glitter' a mile away; there truly is nothing else like it. Not only does it have mirror-bright silver foliage, but it has contrasting black veins that really sparkle. The soft violet leaf back is as pretty as the top but is rarely seen due to the ultra-neat habit of the plant. To top off this Hollywood Glam introduction, it has fantastic bouquet-type flowers of exotic fuchsia pink. Yes, it is garden bling! The fuchsia-pink flowers rise to sixteen inches high on an upright but compact habit, fourteen inches wide by ten inches high. Pollinators love this plant due to its nectar-rich flowers that bloom over an extended period from June to September. It is surprisingly adaptable to different light conditions tolerating shade to full sun, but does best in morning sun. Hardy in USDA Zones four to nine.
