Be Inspired in Heidelberg
Up in the hills of Heidelberg lies a path winding through the forest called Heidelberg's Philosophers' Path, or the Philosophenweg, as it was named during the Romantic Period. Here it was possible to escape the noise of the town for the serenity of the forest, and that is just what many of the university professors and philosophers of Heidelberg did. The path provided a place for solitude, contemplation, natural beauty, and sweeping views of the Neckar River, Old Town of Heidelberg and Heidelberg Castle. These views from along this path are said to have inspired the famous German poets Joseph von Eichendorff and Friedrich Hölderlin in their writings, and they are certain to inspire you.
Gems along the Moselle
Trier, Bernkastel, Traben-Trarbach and Cochem provide delightful medieval backdrops, while the castles and ruins towering above the towns and vineyards along the famous Moselle cycle route offer beautiful panoramas. The route follows the twists and turns of the river, starting in Trier, Germany's oldest town and a great place to explore Roman history, all the way downriver towards Koblenz, at the confluence of the Rhine and Moselle rivers. In between, beautiful Bernkastel impresses with its colorful half-timbered houses and romantic alleys, as well as its well-known "Bernkastler Doctor," a locally produced wine. Traben-Trarbach enchants with its many architectural masterpieces of art nouveau and Belle Epoch; and Cochem, one of the Moselle's most picturesque towns, delights with its 11th-century castle and charming city center. These are just a few of the many highlights you'll discover along the Moselle bike path.
